Last month we took a fun family road trip from Las Vegas to Park City, Utah, with stops at the Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument and at Capitol Reef National Park.
In Vegas, we shared coffee and donuts and split a lobster roll before heading for the 15 North. That might seem like overkill but… vacation.
The weather was gorgeous.
Frozen lakes and farm houses. Blankets of white. It was so, so pretty.
Escalante Outfitters. The pizza was hot, the beer was cold, the salad was crisp, and our server was nice to the baby and to us. Five stars.
We had a quiet night’s sleep and enjoyed waking up in our big white tent. Thank goodness the baby slept well – the welcome materials warned us that the yurts were “not soundproof” and I worried a little about her crying in the middle of the night and waking up other guests.
We drove to Devil’s Garden to have our picnic lunch and ate while the baby napped. It was cool. I was glad we had a big SUV tho – it was super rocky and I might have been nervous about blowing a tire in a smaller car.
Soapbox Sidenote: Get out there and visit a National Park! They are such amazing resources and are under attack by the current administration. Trump proposed cutting $400 million dollars from the national park system in 2018 alone, which reveals his little salary donation publicity stunt for what it really was: a slap in the face. If the name “Escalante” sounds familiar to you, but you can’t place it, it’s probably because you heard on NPR that Trump would be shrinking the size of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by half in order to explore the benefits of stripping the land of “oil, coal, gas, and uranium.”
After a buffet breakfast and eggs and cheese for the baby, we were on our way to Park City.
